A rare sight in Tokyo! The snow came down so hard this day that trains were delayed, highways were closed, and flights were cancelled...but...that didn't stop us from getting to the show! The hard working parking attendant clears the road for the on coming traffic. Since it doesn't snow in Tokyo much, he's probably wondering if he'll get hazard pay out of this...
We just got off the taxi and heading toward the Tokyo Ryutsu Center for the show. It snowed for the rest of the day. This is the scene as you walk into the exhibition hall, show tanks galore! There were hundreds of tanks and thousands of top class koi to see!
There were koi in all size ranges from 2 inches to over 3 1/2 feet! This picture shows fingerlings ranging from 2" to 5" On the other side of the spectrum this Momotaro sanke was on display measuring at a whopping 99cm! That's three and one quarter feet long!!!
This is Red Mako featured in the 'Dream Koi' section of the show. This is an incredible sanke which is one of Momotaro's top breeders. A pair of nice doitsu sanke and doitsu showa. These were in the 45BU category.
Having many varieties at the show makes it much more interesting and fun Momotaro sanke and goshiki on display
Here's a shot of one of our favorite sanke of the day. Tsubozumi is one of our favorites. More top class tosai! Do you think the next All Japan grand champion is in this mix?
Over each show tank award certificates are hung to show the winning koi in their respective varieties. Vendors lined the hall selling filters, magazines, koi food, paintings, and more!
Hikari also had a booth there selling all of their food lines. At the front of the hall tanks are set up to display the champions of this year's show.
Behind these champion display tanks are the pictures of past grand champions Congratulations again to Andrew Filipowski and Alexandria his grand champion Sakai Kohaku.
Looking at koi for 4 hours made us hungry so we stopped in at a noodle shop inside the ryutsu center. Wow! What a goshiki! If you are interested in owning this goshiki please do not hesitate to contact us at 808-223-1989 or at nikkeikoi@nikkeikoi.com
This ginrin goshiki took top honors in its category! Nearly flawless! Another top class sanke in the 80Bu category
Excitement stirs as the show nears the award ceremony The stage is set to crown this year's grand champion owner as well as the other award winners.
The top award winners take the stage to claim there trophy and a page in the history books! This year there were more foreign winners than ever. Seated in front of the stage are all of the owners for the koi that placed in other divisions.
Here's two familiar faces! Between the two of them they have some funny stories to tell!
After the show we all went out for a nice GREAT tasting dinner!
