The video clips of this kohaku are a MUST see! It will completely change your view of the standard of this kohaku. On our second ever buying trip (October 05) we happened to cross paths with this kohaku. This was Momotaro's #1 sansai of 2005 and their biggest buyer had first dibs. This being our very first visit to Momotaro we thought there was no chance of purchasing this koi. Maeda san however, being the awesome person he is, kindly requested that we have first option to buy. We were blown away by this offer! She was 3 years old when we purchased her and measured in at 65cm (25.6") pictured at the far left. As can be seen in the middle image, one year later (Nov 06) tremendous girth and volume has transformed her into a potential All Japan contender. The most recent picture is to the far right which was taken in November 07. She measured in at 72cm (28.3") which is just two classes below the smallest division of where grand champions are selected. She has been raised in Momotaro's 1500 ton (400,000 gallon) pond from October 05 to March 08. To increase growth Maeda san said he would put her into the mud pond this year. Our hope is that she reaches at least 85 cm (33.5") by the harvest this November. We have not seen hear since two years ago and are very excited to see the improvements made thus far!

February 2008
This ginrin tancho showa was introduced to us by email from Sakuma koi farm back in November 06. This was the first year that Sakuma offered his top nisai to foreign customers. Knowing how Sakuma's bloodline works we were very confident that this tancho showa would prove to show great results. The greatest uncertainty lied in the fact that this is a ginrin showa. Ginrin showa generally have sumi that is not as intense as normal showa due to the 'gin' or shine on each scale. As can be seen through the pictures above each year thus far dispite the ginrin the sumi has broken through and intensified every time. We have not seen her since February '08. With the mud pond harvest due shortly there is great anticipation for refinements to come!
